Vienna promotes Christmas breaks for British holidaymakers

A new advertising campaign aims to entice British holidaymakers to Vienna for Christmas breaks.

U Talk Marketing reports that the tourism industry in Austria is appealing to international tourism with the urgent message to visit “Vienna – now or never.” The campaign will launch in early November in the UK, Germany, France, Russia and Romania, with 100 London buses advertising Christmas breaks in Vienna from November 2.

F1 grand prix raises profile of Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is anticipating a boost to its economy with the sold-out Formula One grand prix on Sunday attracting visitors and audiences from across the globe.

Al Bawaba reports that 60,000 spectators are expected to attend the world championship race, which is hosted at the new Yas Island sports venue, a $40 billion development. In addition to the focal championship, the event will also feature music performances from world famous acts including Aerosmith and Beyonce.

Uganda tourism destinations receive US funding

Tourism in Uganda has received an injection of funds from the United States and international sustainable tourism bodies to promote significant tourist destinations across the nation.

The Observer reports that the US government has donated Shs 12 billion (approximately $6.5 million) to Uganda, to be managed by the Sustainable Tourism in the Albertine Rift (STAR) programme. The Global Sustainable Tourism Alliance (GSTA) will also donate a further $6.5 million in items and activities to promote sustainable tourism in attractive destinations and national parks in Uganda.

Tourism in Turkey is continuing to exceed expectations as the country remains one of the most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers in spite of the recession, offering value for money and an increasingly broad range of holiday options.

Breaking Travel News reports that Turkey welcomed 18,694,028 visitors in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 1.1 per cent on 2008, and the tourism industry is predicting to reach 33 million tourists in 2013 as Turkey becomes increasingly popular as an international destination.

Las Vegas promoted as exciting holiday destination

A new advertising campaign targeted at British holidaymakers aims to promote Las Vegas as a value-for-money destination for exciting holidays, with some of the world’s top tourist attractions and events.

Beat The Brochure reports that the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is promoting a range of new attractions in the entertainment capital, which include a musical tribute to Elvis by Cirque de Soleil and major sporting events. Las Vegas will host the upcoming NASCAR race tournament as well as the USA rugby sevens tournament, which will play at the Sam Boyd Stadium. Las Vegas won the right to host the popular tournament in 2010, which was previously held in Carson, Los Angeles.

Maldives tourism exceeds expectations

The number of international visitors to Maldives is on the rise, with arrivals in September exceeding the government’s estimations by 3.9 per cent.

According to Miadhu News, the Maldivan Ministry of Tourism has compiled a statistical report of international visitors, finding that 465,839 tourists had visited the Indian Ocean destination up to September 2009. As the tourism industry recovers from the recession, the number of tourists from Asia and from European countries such as France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Portugal and Switzerland was also found to have increased year-on-year from 2008, causing optimism in the tourism industry of a bright future ahead.

Edinburgh luxury hotels increase occupancy by cutting prices

Edinburgh has continued to attract tourists throughout the global economic downturn, and research suggests that the city’s strong hotel occupancy rates may have been enhanced by price cuts for luxury rooms.

The Scotsman reports that hotels in Edinburgh are seeking to attract more guests, in particular business travellers, by lowering the prices of luxury four- and five-star rooms in accordance with the global dip in luxury hotel prices.

The Times of India reports that artists across the nation are seeking to reach a wider audience by taking art out of galleries and into the public arena. Art expert Anupam Poddar explains: “In India, public art is the result of an enthusiastic burst of energy from a passionate individual or institution. Public art becomes a tourist attraction and identification of a country when designed to encourage audience participation.”
