Holidays in the Maldives on the rise

A new report has revealed that holidays in the Maldives are growing in popularity, as tourism industries across South Asia begin to emerge from the global recession.

According to preliminary figures released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the number of people taking flights to Malé and other destinations in the region increased towards the end of 2009, spelling a bright year ahead for tourism in the Maldives.

500 events celebrate Istanbul as Europe’s culture capital

Recognition as the European Capital of Culture for 2010 is expected to see a 25 per cent increase in flights to Istanbul this year, as more travellers seek out the city’s unique and historic offerings.

Holidays in Turkey have increased in popularity throughout the recession, as more holidaymakers seek cheaper holidays outside of the eurozone. Tourism bosses are also planning around 500 events to celebrate the city’s culture and heritage to further drive the popularity of city breaks in Istanbul.

New campaign promotes golfing holidays in Scotland

Golfers from across the world are being encouraged to seek out Scotland’s famous courses on golfing holidays in the historic home of the sport.

The Drive it Home campaign, launched by the national tourist body VisitScotland, is targeting British golfers as well as players in the key markets of the US, Canada and Sweden. According to the BBC, golf is one of the country’s key tourism areas, and is worth more than £220 million. The golfing industry supports 4,400 jobs across the country.
