Portugal offers ‘excellent holiday opportunity’ in southern Europe

Travellers taking holidays in Portugal this year can look forward to a range of unique experiences, according to one travel expert.

A spokesperson for cheapflights.co.uk has called Portugal an “excellent holiday opportunity,” and recommends interacting with local residents to enjoy a fuller travel experience.

“Many travellers find themselves in beautiful Algarvian villas – with the sunshine and stunning coastlines, it can often be difficult to leave,” she explained.

However, she also recommended that “travellers should get out, enjoy the cuisine and get to know the locals” to get the most out of their trip.

Portugal has long been praised for offering one of the best value holiday destinations on the continent, with its diverse terrain meaning visitors can travel from mountainous terrain in the north down through deserts in the Alentejo region to luxurious beach resorts on the coast – all within a single day.

Portugal is also a popular destination for golfing holidays, with fourteen of the country’s golf courses being rated as among the 100 best in all of Europe. Capital Lisbon is a major destination for cultural tourists for offering some of the nation’s most compelling architecture, museums and art galleries, including the Gulbenkian Museum where visitors can see Egyptian mummies and paintings by Rembrandt.

Portugal was recently chosen as the fifth most popular travel destination for British travellers by sunshine.co.uk, showing that holidaymakers are increasingly favouring exotic destinations. Holidays in Egypt placed top of the list, followed by Greece, the USA and Turkey.
