London theatre district revenues boost city profile

Known throughout Europe as a capital for high-quality theatre, big productions and innovative performances, London‘s theatre district has posted big numbers for 2009, marking a tremendous contribution to efforts to promote the United Kingdom as a tourist destination.

According to research by Visit Britain, the official tourism bureau of the UK, visitors on city breaks in London and other British cities had a total spend of £2.8 billion on shows in the capital. Of the circa 30 million foreign travellers visiting the UK, 10 per cent went on to see shows, many of them in London’s West End.

New auto theme park to open in Abu Dhabi
