Boasting both sandy beaches and an exotic culture, Mexico has grown to become a premiere destination for holidaymakers in the UK, as it provides an unparalleled cultural experience with the best of a tropical holiday. And, according to recent travel research, the sunny destination also provides great value for money for tourists as well.
The Post Office, which recently conducted its annual Long-Haul Holiday Report, compared the prices of several holiday essentials and luxuries, such as meals, coffees and sun cream, in 22 destinations, with holidays in Mexican destinations such as Cancun and Mexico City racking up the second-smallest bill.
In the running, the Post Office found Mexico sandwiched in between market leader Sri Lanka and third-place holder Kenya for the most economical long-haul holiday destinations. All three locales are popular for winter sun holidays with British holidaymakers.
Sean Tipton, from the British travel association ABTA, said that such low prices could even put these destinations at an advantage over closer holiday hotspots in continental Europe.
“Long-haul travel can initially look unattractive, with air fares costing more than travelling to Europe, but many long-haul destinations are cheaper than the Mediterranean, with even a weak pound still going a very long way,” he told the Telegraph.
According to the research by the Post Office, sales for the local currencies in Mexico and Kenya, the peso and the shilling, respectively, rose in popularity by 5 and 11 per cent in the past year, indicating a rise in interest amongst the UK populace.
