A new exhibit in Manhattan, New York, looks set to delight kids of all ages, as it recounts the tales of the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow and Dorothy – and her little dog too!
Children and adults have enjoyed the classic book “The Wizard of Oz” by L Frank Baum for over a century now, and the 1939 film of the same name made its mythos even more legendary, and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan now aims to bring an interactive experience to those on holiday in New York.
Karen Snider, deputy director of exhibitions as the New York museum, commented that the story represents a “journey of childhood and of life.
“I think it really underlines the importance of home and family and friends and how they guide and support every child’s journey.”
The tale, of course, tells the tale of a young girl swept away from farm life to a fantasy land where she meets some incorrigible characters, each of whom must develop aspects of their personality. Whether it’s about a Cowardly Lion showing courage or a Scarecrow using his brain, the story holds lessons and has been a staple for children since its release.
“What’s great about this exhibit is that it’s a great story and it connects with people on an emotional level,” Snider said.
Great for a visit on family holidays in New York, the Wizard of Oz exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan runs through January 2011.
