More Brits getting behind the wheel in Palma than other destinations

Spain has been earmarked as the most popular destination for Britons taking a fly-drive holiday, with Palma de Mallorca snatching the prize as the top city for people exploring the surrounding areas on four wheels.

Located just off the coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea, the island of Mallorca has been a popular spot for beach holidays with Britons for many years and the city of Palma offers many interesting cultural experiences ripe for exploration while on holiday.

The island also has a residence where the Royal Family of Spain often take their holidays, as well as villas owned by many internationally famous celebrities.

According to Car Hire Market, more than one third of all car hire bookings made by British holidaymakers came for the city of Palma de Mallorca, with three Spanish cities all placing in the top ten.

While the New Year is still over a month away, experts have suggested that it’s never too early to start making plans for holidays in 2011, including investigating car hire and flight prices for a spring or summer holiday.

“Spring and summer holidays may seem far away, but booking early is the best way to get great deals,” according to Anel Burns of the comparison site.

Booking early can help customers find the best available vehicles for their trip, regardless of destination, Bruns said. And while they battle through the winter, the thought of a summer holiday may just offer something to look forward to for the average Briton.
