Trip Advisor has once again released figures for its Travellers Choice Awards, this time for the best beaches in Europe for 2011, where Ayia Napa in Cyprus was recognised as the finest destination amongst those lining the Mediterranean and beyond.
Ayia Napa represents just one of many fantastic beaches on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, and can be found halfway between popular resort towns Paphos and Larnaca. Trip Advisor explained the beach could be a party haven, though the surrounding area also offered attractions and sights for families as well.
“If dancing in a bikini is not your thing, though, no worries – you can explore a mediaeval monastery or enjoy cruises on the lovely blue water. Families will want to visit Water World, the biggest theme waterpark in Europe,” the travel experts explained in the rankings.
Another entry from Cyprus came in third place amongst travellers, Protaras Beach, which can be found at the south eastern tip of Cyprus on Fig Tree Bay.
“The glorious beach is the main attraction,” the rankings read. “Just be sure to keep a delightfully wary eye peeled for the legendary Ayia Napa Sea Monster.”
Trip Advisor also extolled the quality of the seafood restaurants in the area, many of which serve in open-air environments so visitors can still enjoy the warm atmosphere.
In addition to the Cypriot destinations, Trip Advisor reported its readers generally favoured beaches in Greece and those found on holidays in Turkey.
