The Jimmy Neutron ride at Universal Orlando, Florida, is to be replaced with a new 3D attraction based on the film Despicable Me, according to park officials.
The animated feature starring Russell Brand, Steve Carell and Julie Andrews originally made a splash when released in 2010. The ride will take visitors to Orlando on a 3D digital adventure, meeting characters from the popular film and participating in an interactive dance party.
“The Despicable Me attraction is the latest example of how we tap into pop culture’s most compelling stories and turn them into extraordinary theme park entertainment,” said the president of Universal Creative, Mark Woodbury. “Audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the villain Gru’s world for many years to come.”
At the same time, the park will also be reanimating The Amazing Adventures of Spider Man cartoon in digital high definition. The cartoon will be shown in 4K HD resolution, the highest resolution possible. Universal said this will allow viewers to experience details in the cartoon they have never seen before.
Both new attractions will open next year, coinciding with a sequel to Despicable Me film.
Universal Orlando is the second largest resort in Orlando and features two theme parks (Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida), the CityWalk night time entertainment complex and three hotels owned by Loews.
The resort also features rides based on famous films such as Jurassic Park and Harry Potter, the latter of which opened to rave reviews in 2010.
