English footballers escaping to Barbados en masse

The Caribbean island nation of Barbados has become the top choice for many footballers in England looking to get away during a bit of down time, and the Telegraph reports that many have been seen in its many resorts.

Especially popular for beach holidays, Barbados offers both low-cost holidays and luxury resorts, which beckon travellers from Western Europe, North America and around the world to its shores. The footballers, however, seem to have suddenly discovered the resort.

As reported by the newspaper, social media savvy holidaymakers have posted snaps of Wayne Rooney and Andy Carroll together in a bar to Twitter. The Telegraph also said Phil Neville and David Moyes, both of Everton, as well as assistant manager Gary McAllister of Aston Villa have all been spotted on the island recently.

While the UK has been enjoying some pleasant weather heading into the summer season, these footballers have apparently seen the draw of the perennially sunny tropical Barbados, where one can relax on the beach all day or engage in adventure activities on the water or further inland.

And, since many footballers currently have time for family holidays or other getaways, they’ve been heading to locations across the globe in order to relax before the new season kicks off.

The Telegraph reported: “Other top flight footballers have spent time in Las Vegas, while Rio Ferdinand, who admitted to taking his family to a north Wales holiday camp last year, has yet to tweet his holiday destination.”
