Rhianna becomes tourism ambassador for Barbados

Pop singer and Barbados native Rhianna has been announced as the island’s tourism ambassador. The R&B star has signed up to be the face of the popular holiday destination for the next three years in a marketing deal with the Barbados Tourism Authority.

The partnership will kick off on 5 August with a full-length concert in Bridgetown, Barbados, as part of her current ‘Loud’ tour.

“Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people,” the singer said on her website.

“I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians.”

Over the course of the three years, Rihanna will promote holidays in Barbados on an exclusive basis through promotional appearances and advertising campaigns.

At the same time the island’s profile will be raised through the singer’s presence on various social media outlets such as Facebook. She will also promote travel to the island during her tour of Brazil this September.

“In the hearts of every Barbadian, Rihanna is known as the girl down the road, but to the world she has become a musical sensation and social phenomenon,” said the Hon Richard L. Sealy, Minister of Tourism for Barbados, as quoted on Rihanna’s website.

“She is a great source of national pride to Barbados and we are thrilled to enter into this formal partnership to promote Barbados as a leading tourist destination.”
