Twenty minutes outside of San Francisco, the sleepy town of Colma has a motto that is leaving visitors scratching their heads.

In the town where the dead outnumber the living 1,000 to 1, residents like to say to one another “It’s great to be alive in Colma!”

Curtain opens on Moscow theatre

The grand re-opening of the most famous theatre in Moscow – the Bolshoi Theatre – is set to take place this November.

The theatre – which has stood on this site since the 1700s – closed in 2005 for a complete refurbishment from the bottom-up, with a price tag estimated at nearly half a billion pounds.

The Illuminating York Festival – now in its seventh year – creates a colourful lightshow around the city, combining art and history by projecting unique lights and images onto the city’s most iconic buildings.
