Portrait gallery re-opens its doors in Edinburgh

One of Scotland’s best loved galleries is set to re-open its doors this weekend in Edinburgh after an ambitious refurbishment project.

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh’s trendy New Town has completed its first major refurbishment in 120 years – opening up new parts of the gallery that were previously inaccessible.

Artefacts at Western Wall shed light on ancient Jerusalem

An hour east of Tel Aviv in Jerusalem, new archaeological discoveries at the Western Wall are broadening historians’ understanding of when the wall was completed.

The discovery of three oil lamps and 17 gold coins – three of which were dated 16 A.D – near the western wall has led archaeologists and historians to believe that the wall was completed much later than originally thought – confirming the belief of a first-century historian.

The grave of one of the most iconic writers and poets of all time is being covered in glass to protect it from damage in Paris.

The final resting place of Oscar Wilde has been a tourist attraction since shortly after his death in 1900 – since then, people have come from all over the world to pay their respects and kiss the poet’s tombstone.

The world’s longest running play is leaving its home stage in London‘s West End and touring the UK for the first time.

The Mousetrap – written by whodunit mastermind Agatha Christie – has been on stage in London since 1952, and will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the play’s opening night on 25 November 2012.

Art exhibit captures planes in motion

A new exhibition in Washington D.C is attracting plane-spotters from around the world.

“AirCraft: The Jet as Art” showcases the popular method of transportation in a new light – with stunning 6 by 6 foot photographs of moving planes in action.

The exhibit, on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum, is a collection of 33 super-sized images of different aircrafts – all taken by standing at the end of a runway at Los Angeles International Airport.
