Chocolate lovers on holiday in Shanghai can see some tempting treats at a new art exhibition that looks good enough to eat.
The World Chocolate Wonderland is set to open a new exhibition 16 December in the prestigious Himalaya Art Museum and showcase ‘chocolate art’ in a 3,500 square metre space devoted to all things cocoa.
More than 200 art pieces will be on display over the course of the exhibition made by “dozens of chocolate masters”. Rather than emphasising the artist, the World Chocolate Showcase is putting the main ingredient – chocolate – in the spotlight.
Dubbed the “world’s first chocolate theme park”, in addition to displaying impressive artworks, World Chocolate Wonderland will also give visitors the opportunity to make different kinds of chocolate under the instruction of seasoned professionals – everything from milk chocolate to truffles and wine chocolate will be on show.
The 200 pieces featured in the exhibit draw influences from all over the world, and chocolate sculptures rendering everything from famous artworks to iconic figures in popular culture.
Highlights include dozens of small milk chocolate terracotta warriors, dark chocolate luxury handbags, a chocolate kitten, chocolate porcelain dishes and chocolate sushi.
Other notable pieces include a life-size chocolate sculpture of Emperor Qin Shi Huang in Terracotta uniform, along with stunning reproductions of famous paintings ‘Along the River During the Qingming Festival’ and ‘Dwelling in the Fuchon Mountains.’
“We generated the idea of the World Chocolate Wonderland, [and] it is the first chocolate theme park in the world,” deputy marketing manager of Beijing Artsource Planning – the show’s organiser – Paul Chao said.
World Chocolate Wonderland runs 16 December to 19 February.
