The line-up for the annual Theatre Festival in Dublin has been announced, boasting its usual range of both local and international talent. This year’s theme, ‘Your City, Your Stories’, will focus on Dublin itself, emphasising the vibrant culture in Ireland’s capital city.
Events will take place in a variety of venues across Dublin, with 32 companies performing in Europe’s oldest dedicated theatre festival.
This year’s programme includes a debut Irish performance by renowned American troupe The Wooster Group, along with the only tour dates in Dublin this year by the massively popular DruidMurphy. Inua Ellams and Elevator Repair Service are also set to return to the festival.
It’s also the first year that Willie White has been at the helm of the 18-day event, with the Artistic Director saying, “This year we are putting Dublin at the very heart of the Festival. Our city is constantly changing and new stories are being written every day in our lives and the lives of those around us.
“The city and the Festival are on a journey. This is the first year of my own journey with Dublin Theatre Festival and I am thrilled to present such a range of exciting work from established and emerging voices in Irish theatre alongside some of the best of international theatre.”
The festival, which begins on 27th September, kicks off with a fresh adaptation of James Joyce’s ‘Dubliners’. A series of family friendly shows have also been included in the programme alongside a ‘ReViewed’ showcase which will stage three of the most popular shows of the last year.
Tickets for the festival go on sale on 15th August, with advanced booking already available for Friends of the Festival.
