US Open turns spotlight on New York

New York is preparing for the finals of the US Open tennis championships as the fortnight long competition enters the latter stages.

Held annually at Flushing Meadows, the hard-court tournament comes to a conclusion on the 9th September and will see the best of the tennis world battle it out for the title.

Spain Welcomes Record Numbers of Sun Seeking Brits

Spain has retained its crown as Britain’s favourite holiday destination, with record numbers of tourists visiting the country last month.

According to statistics released from the Frontier Tourist Movement Survey (FRONTUR), 7.7 million holidaymakers travelled to Spain in July 2012, the highest number of monthly visitors since records began, and an increase of 4.4 per cent on last year’s figures. Nearly 1.2 million of these visitors were British.

A 24-hour torch relay is underway across London ahead of the Paralympic Games opening ceremony.

The torch began its journey in Stoke Madeville where crowds lined the streets to welcome the Paralympic flame to the capital as it travelled towards the Olympic Stadium.

Holidaying Abroad Cheaper than Staying at Home

Brits who chose to holiday at home this year have ended up spending more money than those who jetted off to popular European destinations such as Malaga and Palma, according to a survey by website MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.

Millions of families chose to take a “staycation” this year rather than travel abroad, with two thirds of those holidaying in the UK doing so in order to spend less money.
