Diners in a Los Angeles restaurant are being offered a discount in return for handing over their mobile phones before their meal.
Eva Restaurant, on L.A.’s Beverly Boulevard, is offering a 5% discount to all patrons who surrender their phones to restaurant staff once they are seated.

Spain has retained its crown as Britain’s favourite holiday destination, with record numbers of tourists visiting the country last month.
According to statistics released from the Frontier Tourist Movement Survey (FRONTUR), 7.7 million holidaymakers travelled to Spain in July 2012, the highest number of monthly visitors since records began, and an increase of 4.4 per cent on last year’s figures. Nearly 1.2 million of these visitors were British.

A 24-hour torch relay is underway across London ahead of the Paralympic Games opening ceremony.
The torch began its journey in Stoke Madeville where crowds lined the streets to welcome the Paralympic flame to the capital as it travelled towards the Olympic Stadium.

This year will see the three week long cultural celebration change from a curated event to an open access festival. Now in its third year, the Sydney Fringe Festival will adopt the same system as the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe and allow all who wish to perform to take part.

Brits who chose to holiday at home this year have ended up spending more money than those who jetted off to popular European destinations such as Malaga and Palma, according to a survey by website MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.
Millions of families chose to take a “staycation” this year rather than travel abroad, with two thirds of those holidaying in the UK doing so in order to spend less money.
